For those of you who know what's going on, and where I was planning on working, you understand the pun in the title of this blog.
I'm not going to name this spa only because I've decided I don't want to be linked to them in anyway.
Yesterday was my first and last day at this spa. There were SO many things that made me feel uncomfortable about working there, that I could probably devote 5 different blog posts to it. It was filthy.. To the eye, it seemed appealing, but as an esthetician, there are SOO many problems. I'm just going to list a few. Please note, that if you like this spa, please change your mind. I would never go there for a service, so why would I want to work there. Ok. Here it goes.
Mouse traps throughout the back rooms, storage rooms etc. Rodent poison traps everywhere. Random toenail clippings in the pedicure room. Unchanged towels from previous clients. Wax all over the floor. Double dipping.( I will elaborate soon, do not worry). All of the tools I`m supposed to use for pedicures and manicures are absolutely filthy, with dead skin caked on and unable to be scrubbed off. (in the clean bin). Ugh I can continue. But I won`t.
Double dipping is a term used, when you are doing a wax, and using the same stick throughout the whole service. Fricken.Nasty. You may have heard that `the wax is hot enough to kill the bacteria.` That is a pile of crap.. In order for wax to be hot enough to kill any bacteria, such as herpes, hepatitis, aids... or just nasty genitalia sweat germs, it would have to be boiling.
The way I was trained, was to dip the wax stick in the wax, and toss it out. Get a new stick for every strip. Nice and clean. No cross contamination.. Now I`m not saying that if you`ve ever been for a wax, and they double dip, you`re going to get aids. It is a super small chance that could happen, but why risk it.
How would you feel if you went in for a lip wax, but the lady before you just had a brazilian.. gross I know. I`m not just trying to freak you all out, but I wanted to fill you in on my experience, and how my morals are severely being in a contradicting position. I cannot work there. I go against 90% of their sanatation procedures and over all cleanliness. Like I said, if I cannot reccommend the spa that I work at, there`s gota be something wrong.
I`m starting to get very frustrated. I worked my butt off in school, and got as many certificates as they offer. Top of my class, etc. I seem to be the only one having issues finding a job. I know the right job will come along, even if it`s only 10 bux an hour to start. But it`s getting frustrating that my hardwork hasn`t paid off. I`m worried that the longer that I go without working in a spa, the faster I`m going to forget everything I learned. ( I know that it will all come back to me once I start somewhere, but it`s still a fear).
So thats where I am at. If you`re at a job that pays you really well, and you don`t have an education, take advantage of it. Find a way to love it. Here I am, 10grand later, student loan collecting interest, 95% average, and still working part time at a retail store because I can`t find a job in my field. UGH. So if you have to complain about your good paying job that you hate, but won`t do anything to change it, my door is closed. Suck it up. Or fix it.
I hope this didn`t sound too attacking... it wasn`t supposed to be.
ps, I gave sophia a haircut today... let`s just say I shouldn`t have... It looks pretty awful.. I may cry and eat some icecream today.. But that would mean a trip to the grocery store, so I`ll just skip that one.
